The stories behind the work: the challenge, the approach and what it achieved.

Science and public engagement

Schmidt Science Fellowship

Collaboration partner Angel Sharp
The challenge
The Schmidt Science Fellowship needed to tell a fellow's research story to a broad audience without losing the science underneath it. The source was filmed footage, and the job was to lift it into something that felt considered and clear.
The approach
Working from footage shot by our collaboration partner, we designed and animated the 2D graphic elements in Adobe After Effects. Every graphic was built to sit naturally over the film and to carry the narrative, guiding the viewer through the science one idea at a time.
The outcome
A polished piece that makes a complex research story feel human and easy to follow, fit for the fellowship's public profile.

Bicester Underpass

Collaboration partner BBUG
The challenge
A proposed underpass is hard to picture from a plan. The community and planners needed to see the change clearly, and judge it fairly, before anything was built.
The approach
We built the scene from a mix of modelled and stock 3D assets in Cinema 4D and rendered it in Octane, then produced animated flythroughs in Twinmotion. The aim throughout was an honest, readable view of the proposal rather than a glossy one.
The outcome
Flythroughs and stills that let people walk the route before it existed, supporting clear conversation at consultation.

3D brand assets and web

Open Imagination

The challenge
The site needed a visual identity that felt distinctive and high end on every page, not a set of stock decorations.
The approach
We modelled and animated a batch of looping 3D brand assets in Cinema 4D and rendered them in Octane, one considered piece per page. Each loop was designed to sit lightly on the site and still feel crafted and unmistakably theirs.
The outcome
A consistent, premium look across the whole site, with brand assets that do real work rather than fill space.

PVAT Research Film

Collaboration partner SciAni
The challenge
Explain the science behind a 13.5 million dollar NIH programme grant, with Perivascular Adipose Tissue as a central integrator of vascular health, in a way a scientific audience trusts and a wider audience can follow.
The approach
We translated complex pharmacological and toxicological data into clear 3D animation, visualising the relationship between adipose tissue and vascular mechanics. Accuracy led every decision, and the science was validated by the research team.
The outcome
An animation that communicates the programme's core idea for the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and the wider scientific community.
